Every bottle has a story. Ours began with a cup of coffee…

One of my favourite parts of the day is making that first cup of coffee.I still use the same old moka pot I’ve had for longer than my kids have been alive.I make it slowly, the same way, every day.A small ritual marking a new day.

A few years ago, I started looking for a fresh health shot that felt like it belonged beside my morning coffee.

Everything I found seemed designed for supermarket shelves, not for the first cup of coffee.

So...I started making my own.

The story that comes in a bottle

It never started as a business…

I wasn't trying to build a company.
I was trying to build a better morning.There was a lot in my life I couldn't control.
But I could choose how each day began.So I'd wake up early.
Make coffee.
Sit quietly for a few minutes before the world became busy.Maybe your mornings look different.But I think we're all looking for the same thing.A good way to begin the day.

For me, adding a fresh health shot simply made my favourite morning ritual even better.

And then something unexpected happened…

At first, I was making it just for myself.Then I started taking one to my partner with her morning coffee.One morning I forgot.She looked up at me and smiled.

"Hey... where's my shot?"

That was the moment I realised it wasn't just mine anymore.Soon I was making a few litres at a time and keeping them in old glass jars in the fridge.Before long, my four kids had discovered it too.I'd often find myself saying,"Guys... you're only meant to have one or two, not five!"So I bought a box of little glass bottles.Not because I was starting a business.But because it was an easier way to portion them.Then I started taking those bottles to weekends away with friends.And then, for fun I designed and added a label and gave them a name.A few found their way to the baristas at my local coffee shop in Kalk Bay.Eventually people started asking,

"Have you brought the Healthshots?"

Somewhere along the way, they'd given them a name.Good mornings have a habit of spreading.

That's where Healthshots really began.
Not because we decided to start a business.
But because it had quietly become part of our mornings.

Looking back, I realise we hadn't built a product.We'd simply created something the people around us genuinely looked forward to.That's when we began wondering whether more people might enjoy it too.

That was the whole idea.Nothing more complicated than that.We weren't trying to build a business around customers.
We were finding people who already loved mornings, and sharing an intentional way to begin each day.Maybe for you, it's...

Freshly made and kept refrigerated from production to café.

Every bottle is chopped, pressed, blended and filled by hand. We still make them in small batches because we think that's the best way to make them.

I started talking to my friend, Jeff Greenwood.Jeff has spent years in coffee and hospitality. And, like me, he believes that great coffee shops are about much more than coffee.I spend my time meeting café owners, training baristas and sharing our story.
Jeff makes sure every bottle is something we'd be proud to serve.We don't know where this journey will lead, but we're planning on doing it the way it began.
